With the reopening of nightlife we're once again confronted with a lot of issues that go hand-in-hand with it. Explicit problems like violence against minorities, the harassment of women as well as the problems related to illicit substances are more than ever present in our sector.
It’s clear that there is still a long way to go to create a healthy and sustainable sector where the public, artists and professionals can all unite in a safe environment until the early hours. Listen wants to offer a platform to reflect on these topics, shine a light on the current initiatives and come up with new ones.
With this goal in mind, we’ll host a free 4 day programme under the banner Night Signals as an integral part of our festival. With talks, round-tables, workshops and testimonies/open-mics the goal of this programme is to formulate answers to the question “What kind of nightlife do we want for the future?”.
The Night Signals programme will focus on various topics like harm reduction policies, anti-harassment protocols in the party scene, copyright and music economy. At the same time, Night Signals will offer an opportunity to reflect on the heritage of party culture through a discussion on the notions of nightlife heritage, archive and oral history.
